Get rid of state stores

State Rep. Maria Donatucci’s Monday letter, “Don’t do away with state liquor stores,” is a red herring.

I have lived all over the country, and Pennsylvania’s system is antiquated and user-unfriendly. The real issue that Donatucci skirts is the tax revenue. It is possible to ensure the state receives all the tax money it gets now without the existing state-supported monopoly of stores and the costs involved.

To truly provide a service to residents, make all alcoholic beverages available in any store that chooses to sell them under the appropriate state-mandated rules and everyone will be happy – the state and its coffers, store owners and, most importantly, consumers.

Get rid of state stores. Allow people to buy alcohol at the local grocery store. Wisconsin and many other states are doing quite well that way.
