The system failed Tierne Ewing

I am the aunt of Tierne Ewing, who was murdered last month, and I’m writing in reference to your Tuesday letter regarding domestic violence.

While I understand the writer wanted to convey that under no circumstance should the victim be blamed, it also stated “the system didn’t kill Tierne Ewing, her abuser did.” With all due respect, her abuser could not have murdered her if he had been locked up as he should have been.

Today I read where a man was held on $250,000 bond for stabbing a woman in her arm, and doing far less than Kevin Ewing did to my niece when he tortured her. It’s a shame Kevin Ewing didn’t go before that judge.

Yes, the system killed Tierne Ewing.
