Times have changed
It is time to lay down the old history books and concentrate on what life is all about today.
At one time, boats of immigrants from European countries were arriving in America for better living conditions. Our towns were filled with people speaking foreign languages, but never did we fear their presence. They were our neighbors. Children played together, adults prayed together.
As marriages took place, our communities grew. Men, young and old, had places to work. Many worked two jobs. Life was hard but no one felt shamed because of their heritage or wealth. We believed in faith and trust. You made small or big purchases of furniture, clothing and food on company credit, not with a plastic card.
Following World War II, the whole country started to grow. Schools merged their small buildings into a main building. Dreams of college grew as fast as the students grew. Parents and children had strong relationships.
Turning back to old times will never happen, unfortunately. We need better ways than reading old history books. History should be taught from books on America’s future, not the past. Our lives have drastically changed.
