LETTER Balloons are for clowns
Someone please tell me when littering became a way to honor the deceased?
The release of helium-filled balloons into the atmosphere is more an exercise in littering than a way to honor the dead. Balloons take many years to decompose, if they ever do. They pollute the landscape and waterways, harming wildlife and the environment. What goes up must come down.
Can’t these folks find a more beneficial way to honor their loved ones? Try planting a tree or picking up litter along a highway. Heaven knows we have enough litter in this state. Leave the balloons to the clowns.
