Hold internet service providers accountable
I live in a Jefferson, and calling it a small town would be a stretch. I understand internet service providers might have a hard time investing time and money in my area, but when you go more than eight months without having reliable service, it gets to a point when you have to call them out on it.
I will not name the company, although anybody familiar with Jefferson knows we only have two providers. One is a phone company, and the other is a cable company. I switched from the phone company to the cable company because the phone company was unreliable. Let me tell you, there is no difference. Both companies completely ignore their customers, and advertise packages they are unable to provide.
My internet disconnects about once every 20 minutes. I have had to call every day this month, last month, and the month before. I reported them to the Federal Communications Commission, and I was told I would receive a written offer of compensation. It never happened.
I was told it was an area issue. I had it disconnected. The cable company called me and told me it was being fixed that evening, and so I had my service turned back on. It was not fixed. I have called four days in a row, and they have given me different reasons for why it is not working every time. I tried going through social media, they blocked me on Facebook and Twitter so I could not share my experience, or contact them.
I want to know why the laws are not being enforced. I want to know why internet service providers aren’t subject to the same standards we set for every other industry. I want to know why it takes eight months to troubleshoot a single issue. I want these companies to provide the services they promise in their advertisements.
