The GOP conscience is not clear

It’s August recess, usually designated as a time when representatives come back from Congress and hold town halls and other public events with their constituents

Unless you’re a member of the Republican Party, so deeply ashamed of their own president that they cannot face their constituents, choosing instead to blame their cowardice on “violent rhetoric.”

It is certain today that every honest American is ashamed of our government. Our allies around the world look on in horror as their leader, their steadfast champion of democratic principles, has been sold to the highest bidder, an unprincipled liar lacking in character to be the leader of the free world.

After the election, the most bitter and polarized in recent history, Donald Trump made no attempt at unity. He does not want unity. This is a man who has declared the free press, an institution considered so important by our Founding Fathers that they enshrined its protections in the First Amendment of the Constitution, to be the enemy of the people. This is a man who has made it abundantly clear that he considers anyone not loyal to him to be his enemy.

The United States has been seduced by a con man, and if we let it continue, if we do nothing as the madman steers this country toward further chaos and isolation, then we deserve whatever fate befalls us.

The Republican Party made a deal with the devil because they could not win on their own principles, sacrificing the moral character of the country for power and control.

The Republican Party’s conscience is not clear, which is why they cannot hold their heads high in public.
