Confederacy was an enemy of the United States

In regards to statues and monuments of the Confederacy, we must remember that the Confederacy sought to overthrow the Union, the United States of America, which arose from the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence. The Confederacy, therefore, was an enemy of the United States of America.

I wonder if there are any statues or monuments in Germany honoring Adolf Hitler or Rudolf Hess, Josef Mengele, Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler and other leaders of the Third Reich? I hardly think so.

History is just that – history. We should never pay tribute to or honor to the darkest days of our history. That is not rewriting our history, but it is keeping things in their proper perspective.

We honor what we stand for and who we are – pure and simple

The Rev. Joseph S. Lewandowski (ret.)
