Expand the sales tax
This response is to Sam Oliverio’s Monday letter about receiving an outrageous property tax increase. Taxes for property owners and homeowners will continue to increase in this state because of its antiquated tax system. I’m sure by now that all of us are feeling the bite of what the commonwealth and local governments will do to its respectable citizens.
We need people to stop standing in the shadows expecting politicians to do the right thing. Taxpayers should and must demand more. Tax reform should come in the form of an expanded sales tax.
No one who has worked, bought or built a beautiful home or farm, and is now retired, should be held accountable to pay for the demands of a tax system that doesn’t work. I know people who are older, on fixed incomes, and are overwhelmed by this tax increase. A sales tax would have everyone involved. This tax situation is just like an infection – the more you ignore it, the worse it will get.
Nothing will get done until the voice of the people is heard.
