LETTER A danger to our republic

Dave Ball should read a little more about the word “totalitarianism” before he tries to use it to explain “1984” in 5,000 words or less, as he did in his Nov. 26 column. I only hope he does not try to explain “War of the Worlds,” or we will all be jumping off the roof.

The dictionary definition of “totalitarianism” is a follows: “A system of government that is centralized and dictatorial, and requires complete subservience to the state.” Please notice the words “dictatorial” and “subservience.”

If you read history, you could compare President Trump’s first year in office to the fascists of Germany, trying to rid the country of all dissent. This is a real danger to a republic like ours.
