LETTER If Moore wins, character doesn’t count
Many things about Donald Trump are unpredictable, as most of his positions change with the wind. One instance of consistency which should not surprise us is his full-throated endorsement of accused child molester and sanctimonious Alabama theocrat Roy Moore to serve in the U. S. Senate.
Trump does not care whether the allegations of Moore’s involvement with girls as young as 14 when he was in his 30s are true, because he is not a person of character, integrity, or decency, and we know how he feels about women, judging them by their appearance and their bodies, and having boasted of engaging in sexual assault.
Let us hope that Trump’s shameful embracing of anti-immigration, anti-gay, anti-Muslim, anti-abortion rights Moore is as successful as was his endorsement of Moore’s primary opponent, Luther Strange.
If the people of Alabama elect Moore despite his fatal flaws, they will demonstrate that they, like the president, have decided that character is of no consequence.
