Turn on your headlights
Pennsylvania passed a law saying that if your windshield wipers are on, you should also turn on your headlights. Most people comply, but there are some scofflaws who ignore the law. They forget that other people have to see them.
Many a time I’ve been behind someone on a dark, rainy day and could barely see their car. And, invariably, the car would be dark-colored or black, making the situation worse.
I drove past the area on Route 19 in Peters Township where a pedestrian was hit by a car coming from the south on Monday. It was almost 9 a.m., and I was concerned because it was so hard to see. Besides the dark sky and rain, it was also foggy. When the injured pedestrian is able to tell his story, I’d lay you odds he didn’t see the car coming.
I wish we had to keep headlights on all the time, as is the case in some countries.
