Health Center is a community service

The money expended on a facility like the Washington County Health Center should not be looked on as a “loss.” It’s a service to the people of Washington County, like roads, police, or any such community service.

If it is sold, some organization will be trying to manipulate its services so as to yield a profit. The only possible way to do that would be to cut services, cut staff or reduce their pay, and otherwise let the quality of care deteriorate.

Is this what the county commissioners really envision as their objective? They would get a one-time payment into county coffers, but create a long-term problem of how to care for the people who now use this service.

Or, I suppose, they could just declare that it’s not their problem and that it will magically disappear.
