Renters pay school taxes

I am writing this response to Natalia Bilec’s Sunday letter about how it’s unfair that people who rent homes don’t have to pay school taxes.

Landlords who own and rent their homes to working families have to pay their share of school taxes, just the same as individuals who own houses. It’s up to the landlord to decide whether or not to raise the rent to offset tax increases. When this occurs, the renter then has to absorb the costs in increased school taxes for the home they are residing in.

Renters are having to pay more for increased school taxes as well, it’s just in a different form.
