Attacking the air we breathe

Environmental Protection Agency protections may be all that small towns have to protect themselves from methane and other toxic pollutants the oil and gas industry are being allowed to emit into our air. Breathing such air allows us to be exposed to the possibility of asthma and various cancers.

Recently, I went to Washington, D.C., with my two children and a Scenery Hill family of five to represent our county, state and country at the only EPA hearing on the topic of imposing a two-year stay on methane regulations. We were not alone.

Tribal leaders, public health advocates, industry watchdogs and many impacted families spoke passionately and personally about their own health issues and related problems.

America was speaking to the Trump administration to tell them we overwhelmingly support commonsense safeguards to reduce gas and oil industry pollution. We need these regulations to keep our families healthy and our air safe. We are expecting our leaders in Washington, D.C., to put this into place quickly, and place the health of our children above lobbyists, money and special interests.

We all must stop allowing the Trump administration to attack the air we breathe. Every day these laws are not in place is another day industry spews methane and other toxins into the air.
