Hiding real violence

It was wrong for carrot-topped comedian Kathy Griffin to be photographed holding a fake head of President Trump. It was tasteless, crass and divisive.
In other words, very Trumpian.
But while the head that caused the real Trump’s noggin to explode in rage was fake, the fatal stabbings of two Samaritans in Oregon by a domestic terrorist were all too real. Yes, I didn’t call the accused killer a white supremacist. And I won’t.
The reaction to that vile act, from both Trump and his dwindling number of supporters, has been relatively sluggish and muted.
I guess that’s what America has come to. Hiding and sugar-coating real violence, the kind that continues to rip the nation apart, while bemoaning a cockeyed comic and her failed attempt at a joke.
