Speaking out against mendacity
I would like to shake the hand of LeRoy Bloom, following his Oct. 29 column on the lies of President Trump and his chief of staff, John Kelly.
I’m assuming Bloom is of my generation. We were taught at our mother’s knees to never lie. My parents told me that once you are caught in a lie, people never believe another word you say.
Trump lost my respect when he lied about President Obama’s birth certificate, and that was only the beginning of his lying. Like Bloom, I had hoped that Kelly would be sobering influence on the president, but he has only added lies of his own. And who will ever believe anything said by Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary? What a sad day for our country.
Bloom should be thanked for speaking out. If only more people would do the same, we might halt this creeping culture of mendacity.
