Nation’s race relations have deteriorated

In his Aug. 31 column, David Brooks got something right – the Democratic Party has a long history of racism. And though this country elected a black man president for two terms, race relations seem to have deteriorated. They are so bad that a black police sergeant in Dallas filed suit against President Obama and others for inciting riots.

Lawful immigration is not racism, it is common sense. Does Brooks not see what is happening in Europe? Do we want to endure that here? Mexican-Americans who live on the border highly resent immigrants from the south who enter our country illegally, break our laws and wreak havoc.

Also, how can Brooks lament over the pardon by President Trump of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and not seem concerned about Obama’s commutation of 504 life sentences, 212 pardons and the release of known terrorists?

Finally, if I am hated for my Bible-based beliefs, does that make me a hater? Laws, especially God’s laws, are for our protection and well-being. Our second-greatest commandment is that we love one another.

It does not mean to condone all behaviors, but to be kind to everyone.

Let’s not let the forces that are trying to divide and conquer this great nation succeed.
