What if Roethlisberger took a knee?
The doughy dotard who should be fired from his job in the Oval Office recently ranted that any NFL player not standing for the national anthem should be fired.
Or, as he put it, with all the brio of the game show host that he was born to be, “Fired!”
Maybe next on his addled agenda will be the passage of a law requiring the national anthem be played before movies and restaurant meals. Don’t laugh.
I have to wonder if it’s only backup quarterbacks and unknown offensive linemen that should be canned, or, say, a franchise quarterback who is on the verge of leading his team to a Super Bowl. If Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger simultaneously took a knee before they were about to meet for pro football’s biggest prize, would their fans in Green Bay and Pittsburgh be OK with their immediate dismissal?
Probably not. But such a premise is peachy in the Unhinged Universe of the Red Meat, where President Trump made his petulant proposal to punish peaceful protesters exercising their constitutional right that men not named Donald Trump had the courage to fight and die for.
