LETTER: Trump should pay for the wall
President Trump is threatening to “shut down the government” unless he gets money from the American taxpayers to build his “wall” along the United States-Mexico border. I distinctly remember during the run-up to the election he yelled about a wall, and that MEXICO WOULD PAY FOR IT.
Great. So, why is he threatening America with a federal government shutdown? Sounds like extortion to me. He’s already talking about giving out $12 billion to people damaged by his ill-thought-out tariffs, from our money. After all, “trade wars are easy to win.”
He talked extensively about “self-financing” his electoral run, and that didn’t happen, either. Why can’t he underwrite the fallout of his policies when they go so badly wrong? He wants a wall, and Mexico demurs to finance it? Fine. Let him do it. It was his bright idea in the first place.
I’m tired of the Trump legerdemain. His notions; he should pay.
