LETTER: Ball’s commentary on demise of Democratic Party misses mark
Now that all three segments of Dave Ball’s commentary on the demise of the Democratic Party have been published, a few comments are in order. His premise is built around three themes: the Democratic Party is moving toward violence, toward communism, and supports open borders. Ball concludes that the Democrats are losing the support of the American electorate and that after November, “there may well be no Democratic Party.”
To summarize my reply: Responsible criticism of the president’s outrageous conduct and questionable policies does not encourage violence. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party has adopted the principles of equality and medical care for all our citizens but has never advocated communism. And when Democrats take positions that favor “dreamers” and the rule of law in deciding the fate of those seeking political asylum, this is not a call for open borders.
Dave Ball’s three-part commentary champions positions that are so radical that few conservative pundits have adopted them. Indeed, much of the recent conversation has centered on the Republican Party losing support because of the president’s conduct and his actions against free trade and immigration. One can only hope that Ball will return with an epilogue after the November mid-term elections to explain why he is sitting in a boat following the blue wave that will break over the country.
