Get your flu shot

It appears as though the Facebook friends of this newspaper are astonishingly ignorant with regards to the influenza vaccine (Reader React, Dec. 12). As a physician, I have heard all the excuses to avoid receiving the vaccine, and I have responses for every one. There are few valid reasons not to get a flu shot, but my arguments with “anti-vaxxers” have never been won.

The sight of a 6-year-old girl dying of complications of influenza is not a pretty thing. If these folks ever witness this, they might change their tune.

Get your flu shot; it’s not too late.
