LETTER Fix Marianna’s real problems
The Marianna Borough Council is wasting time and money addressing problems that don’t exist.
The council needs to put aside whatever misgivings they have against the Marianna Outdoorsmen Association and work with them to make our town a better place to live. Marianna’s dam isn’t a problem. It actually benefits the town, the children and disabled veterans who travel to fish there. The problems we do have are collapsing buildings that have not been torn down or repaired, roads that aren’t in much better shape than the houses, and waterlines that break and aren’t fixed properly. Money was promised to deal with blight, and it needs to be used.
On the other hand, there isn’t enough money to take out the dam, let alone to clean up the mine waste it’s keeping out of the Monongahela River. It isn’t hurting anyone. The borough council needs to get back to serving the community, not their egos and personal agendas.
