LETTER Washington streets like Dresden
I’d like to address various matters concerning roads and streets in our area.
First, the stop sign at the intersection of Donnan and Summerlea avenues, just beyond Sammy Angott Way, in Washington. This sign should be removed, since about 95 percent of drivers don’t even slow down out of courtesy.
Second, when merging onto I-70 westbound at Dunningsville, you encounter a mileage sign that lists the distance to Washington at 9 miles, and to Wheeling, W. Va., at 42 miles. However, after going approximately three miles to the west, you see another mileage sign that lists the distance to Washington at 9 miles and to Wheeling at 42 miles. Does PennDOT have a problem with mileage calculations?
And, last but not least, if a World War II veteran had been on the streets of Dresden, Germany, after it was bombed, I’m quite sure he would have memories return while attempting to navigate the streets in Washington. I didn’t see Dresden personally, but photos clearly show the similarities between the streets, the only difference being bomb craters in Dresden and potholes in Washington. What a disgrace to this area.
