LETTER Prison food is substandard

I’ve been incarcerated at SCI Greene since November 1999. There was an article in the Observer-Reporter in December about the holiday meal that was served here. Since the arrival of the new food provider, all meals here are at least a “3” on a scale of 1 to 10, including the holiday meal.

The stewards who oversee the preparation of these meals really don’t care about the meals, because they receive specifically prepared meals. They serve cold cereal, toast with coffee and milk at breakfast. There is stale cake and cereal for some others.

The newspaper’s reporter asked several dietary inmate workers specific questions, not questions that would have led to another story. These same dietary workers could’ve given you all the information you would ever need so you could understand why the billion-dollar corrections industry is feeding residents substandard food.

Next time, instead of asking the inmate workers to sign waivers, just ask the right questions.
