Thanks to the efforts of many, Baylee is recovering
On June 5, Angel Ridge Animal Rescue accepted an injured and abused dog that was posted as “free” on Craigslist and rescued by a woman in Pittsburgh. This young female mixed breed, Basil, now Baylee, was immediately examined by a veterinarian, who diagnosed malnutrition, multiple fractures and a dislocated left hip.
On June 17 and 24, the Observer-Reporter ran a photo ad entitled, “Nearly Kicked to Death.” The community’s response to our plea for funds for surgery and ongoing veterinary treatment for Baylee was overwhelming. In addition to generous monetary donations, we received an outpouring of well wishes and prayers for her recovery.
On June 18, Baylee had surgery for her injured hip. She is now recuperating comfortably in the home of one of our volunteers. For the first time in her young life, Baylee is experiencing the joy of a loving home. In approximately one month, Baylee will be healed enough to be ready for adoption into a permanent home.
Baylee’s abuse occurred in Westmoreland County. The Greensburg Police Department and the Westmoreland County Humane Society collaborated immediately in this investigation. As a result, two of Baylee’s puppies and another young female dog were removed from the home where Baylee was abused. A child living in the household was referred to CYS. On July 6, the alleged abuser was arrested and placed in Westmoreland County Prison on $60,000 bond.
Many compassionate and competent people were instrumental in the rescue of Baylee. We extend our gratitude to Sara, the young woman in Pittsburgh who rescued Baylee and collaborated with law enforcement. We applaud law enforcement and the Westmoreland County district attorney for their work on Baylee’s behalf. We thank Observer Publishing Co., which extended a generous discount to us in the placement of the ads for Baylee’s veterinary care.
Finally, we are so grateful to this compassionate and generous Washington County community for supporting our efforts to help Baylee, and other animals that have come to us as the victims of unspeakable abuse.
