LETTER Canton residents deserve better
I am a resident of Canton Township. We were informed at the last township meeting that supervisors are considering raising our taxes in order to combine with other municipalities for police protection due to the fact that state police doesn’t want to take care of our residents.
Residents have said they have requested police response in the past for various reasons and police never show up. I was under the impression that Canton is part of the state of Pennsylvania. As a resident, I have had state taxes deducted from my paycheck. As such, my tax dollars help pay the salaries of state police, and therefore, I am entitled to police protection. Police should not be choosing which parts of Pennsylvania they want to protect and let the rest fend for themselves.
Maybe Canton residents should speak up and rally on the steps of the Capitol in Harrisburg. Maybe the governor should consider giving Canton residents tax exemptions, since we are exempt from state police protection. Send letters to the governor demanding your state taxes be returned to you for a job never done.
I respect our police nationwide. Too bad some of them don’t feel the same.
