Meet the Observer-Reporter editorial board


Tom Northrop
Tom Northrop is a fourth-generation publisher of the Observer-Reporter. He began his career in 1980 in production operations before becoming co-publisher in 2002 and publisher in 2004. He is a graduate of Marietta College and the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Lucy Corwin
Lucy Northrop Corwin is a fourth-generation shareholder of Observer Publishing Co. She joined the family business in 1997, working in Newspaper in Education, and then served as general manager of the Greene County bureau. The Emory University graduate is now vice president and director of news.

Liz Rogers
Liz Rogers, executive editor, joined the Observer-Reporter in 1982. She has worked as a reporter, copy editor, night editor and managing editor for news before being named editor of the newspaper in 2011. She is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania.

Brant Newman
Brant Newman, assistant managing editor for news, is a graduate of West Liberty University. He came to the Observer-Reporter in 1990 after working as South Carolina state editor for United Press International. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with the White House Communications Agency under Presidents Ford and Carter.

Mike Jones
Mike Jones, regional editor, has worked in the news industry, both print and online, since 2005. The West Virginia University graduate is responsible for managing the Observer-Reporter’s bureau in Greene County and editing The Almanac, published weekly by the Observer Publishing Co. in the South Hills.

Rick Shrum
Rick Shrum, business writer, has been a daily newspaper journalist for nearly four decades, working as a news and sports reporter, copy editor, section editor and editorial writer. He is a University of Pittsburgh graduate and a lifelong resident of this corner of the state.

Brad Hundt
Brad Hundt is a general assignment reporter who hails from Toledo, Ohio. He came to the Observer-Reporter in 1998 after working at newspapers in Michigan and Georgia and receiving a master’s degree in popular culture studies from Bowling Green State University.
