LETTER A frustrating voting experience
I have never been so frustrated with a voting experience as I was March 13.
I got in line to vote at 10:45 a.m. at North Strabane Township Fire Hall with 27 people in front of me. I finally got to vote at 11:30. There were five poll workers, two standing by to supervise and three working registration. One one of the five was authorized to check people in since she had the only computer used to verify registration. Five voting machines were available for use, yet there was never a time while I was there that more than two of them were in use because of the slow sign-in process. On my way out, the line had reached about 40 people deep. Several people commented that they did not have an hour to wait so they left. Did they return later or skip voting altogether? We will never know the answer, nor will we know if the disorganized process “lost” votes for either candidate in such a close election.
This could be one reason why elections have such low turnouts. It makes one consider voting via absentee ballot or not at all.
