LETTER Limit campaign fund donations
My congratulations and full support to the youth movement for gun control. Their theme of “vote them out” is good, but there is a larger problem that needs to be addressed – a severe limit to donations to politician’s campaign funds.
Large organizations, PACS, businesses corporations and individuals should be limited to making only small (common man-sized) donations each year to any one politician. These donations should not be tax deductible, and any underreporting should result in removal from office. The playing field will be level only when such limitations are strictly enforced. While this is starkly clear in face of the vast majority of the populace supporting controls that the NRA consistently and successfully opposes, it really applies in many other divergent areas. The one man, one vote philosophy is overridden by the power of money in our political system where money speaks much louder than words and demonstrations. After the drive to increase gun control hopefully succeeds it will be replaced by another outbalanced issue, then another and another until the money issue is resolved. Stricter term limits would also be a big help.
