Each week, the Observer-Reporter asks Facebook friends to respond to a question about an issue in the news. This week, we asked, “What are your thoughts about the Boy Scouts of America dropping ‘boys’ from its name and accepting girls in all levels of the organization?”
Maureen E. Johnson It is totally ridiculous. Political correctness garbage is out of control. The world does not care about your hurt feelings. The sooner you grow up and actually participate in the working world, the sooner you realize you are not the center of the universe. God is, and he made girls and boys different for a reason.
Eric McGrosky … what happens on the campouts?
Robin Roberts By allowing this the BSA has probably committed suicide. The Church of Latter Day Saints has already made known its intention to withdraw and take more than 400,000 members with it!
Kelly Johnson Conner There is Boy Scouts … and Girl Scouts for a reason. Stop trying to change everything so you don’t hurt someone’s feelings. Life sucks, and not everything is sunshine and rainbows.
Are you gonna start making sororities and fraternities accept boys and girls …
Debbie Durbin The girls have their Girls Scouts, so why can’t they leave stuff like it is?
Jonathan Deutsch The main issue I see is that the Boy Scouts have accepted girls, but the Girl Scouts refuse to allow boys. Seems odd to me if you want equality so long as it benefits one person over another. I find it odd and I don’t believe it’s over declining enrollment as it is the political climate of the year. Every organization is caving to the agenda and nobody will stick to what made them great and continue the tradition. Times change but within reason.
Anthony J. Lewandowski This is exactly what the progressives want, to deconstruct the very fiber of what makes this nation great. Decisions such as these are exactly what Obama and his minions worked to incorporate during his disastrous tenure and we still feel the ramifications of his “legacy.” Rather than rolling over we need to act rather than react and stand up to the … progressives.
Jeff Cadman Imagine the first female to obtain Eagle Scout, what an honor that would be for her! On the other hand, did the YMCA change its name when non-Christians and/or females started to attend? If real equality is to be had, then the Girls Scouts should drop the gender designation and also admit boys.
Matthew Renk It’s funny, but up until the Boy Scouts made this decision, I don’t recall any push or campaign by any organization for the Boy Scouts to accept girls. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Is it possible this is merely a business decision to offer their product to a wider base? I see a lot of people who are whining while they blame this change on people whining. Also the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are two completely different organizations. It’s funny how in one breath there are people who condemn this decision, then say that another completely separate business should make a similar change because it’s not fair. I don’t see why one business’ decision has anything to do with the other.
Nicole Wilson What if the section or town or whatever doesn’t have enough girls to do a troop or the boys to do cubs, then, yes, they should be OK to have one big one … it’s like in high school when there isn’t enough girls to have a full soccer team, the girls go on the boys team …
Melissa Messina-Kerr Ridiculous
Nicolas Borovich Boys are boys, and girls are girls. They are different. Facts don’t care about your feelings.
Vanessa Gray It should stay the way it was. Some things should not change.
Deann Bazzano Ridiculous
Daniel Walters I won’t support them anymore.
Wesley S. Peters The death of a great organization.
Debbie Volen Cecchini Stupid
