LETTER: Step up and help the immigrants
Step up and help the immigrants
It is such a human tragedy – the immigrant migration from the south … desperate people trying to make a better life for themselves and their families.
There aren’t any good solutions to this problem, only temporary Band-Aids, at best. It is increasingly evident that this is ballooning into a significant national problem that is plainly overwhelming the border areas. At least two other waves are on their way. What next?
If we are going to continue to assimilate immigrants into our society, then the rest of the country has to help out. It’s all well and good to be a sanctuary city like New York, but this northern city is far away from the border fiasco and is not dealing with the enormous influx of people. Their immigrant population is comparatively stable.
President Trump has proposed that the sanctuary cities help take in the immigrants. What’s wrong with that? If these cities truly want to support these people, HELP THEM! To cite two old cliches,” Step up to the plate,” and “Put your money where your mouth is.”
