LETTER: President fiddles while the world burns

As the president’s limited attention span is diverted to other issues, such as his drive to win re-election at all costs, and to bury every prominent foe in Tweet condemnation and hatred, North Korea continues to advance its drive to be a formidable threat to the civilized world, engaging in new weapons testing with hardly a peep from our leader.

Kim Jong Un is but 35 years of age, but far smarter and savvy than our 73-year-old president whom he plays like a fiddle, using the simple tactic which will sink many extreme narcissists like Trump: flattery.

The key to getting Trump to look the other way as Chairman Kim tests new weapons is to exchange “beautiful letters.”

I often wonder how long it would have taken diehard Trump supporters to call for the impeachment of a Democratic president who declared that he had “fallen in love” with a murderous dictator enemy, and who would take the word of such a tyrant over that of his intelligence services. No wonder an esteemed, rational, reasonable, sane, scholarly adult like former Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats could no longer bear to serve in this administration.

Trump fiddles while the world burns. His dereliction of duty vis-a-vis North Korea may cause him to be remembered as a modern-day Neville Chamberlain, looking the other way as our traditional foes get the best of him and us.
