LETTER: Trail is maintained by volunteers
Trail is maintained by volunteers
As I read the article last week about the roundtable discussion involving local officials, I was happy to see that the Montour Trail was mentioned as an important asset.
Indeed it is. But I do want to remind everyone who uses it for jogging, cycling, dog walking, or just plain walking, that, with the exception of the paved portion in Peters Township known as Arrowhead Trail, and the connector from Southpointe, the Montour Trail is maintained by volunteers.
The people you see clearing ditches, removing fallen trees, replacing damaged fencing and benches, resurfacing, planting flowers and everything else involved in keeping the trail in proper condition, are volunteers The Montour Trail Council is a nonprofit entity. If you use the trail, I urge you to go to the Montour Trail website and become a member. There is also a box where you can tell us on what part of the trail you would like to volunteer. Donations are also accepted. All proceeds are used for equipment and needed improvements.
