LETTER: Benteyville can’t afford higher water and sewage bills
I am writing in response to the May 31 article regarding Charleroi Borough Council moving to dissolve their water authority, the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi (ABC).
Bentleyville also receives its water from ABC. Residents of Bentleyville have expressed their concern regarding Charleroi taking over ABC. The Observer-Reporter‘s article states there are significant funds beyond the money ABC needs to maintain its systems. That leaves me to believe that ABC wisely saves money to provide for any major repairs or upgrades it may need to make in the future. The borough is looking to use those funds for the betterment of Charleroi. That concerns Bentleyville residents. What happens when that money is spent, and a major upgrade is needed to the water system(s)?
Many people in Bentleyville are senior citizens and people living paycheck to paycheck. Our payments to ABC helped build their reserve funds. We can’t afford to have our water and sewage bills double or triple in the coming years to replenish the reserves that we already helped pay to ABC.
