LETTER: The perils of AI
It’s difficult to underestimate the perils to civilized behavior in this age of artificial intelligence (AI). One only need to listen to irate reactions of Donald Trump supporters following his most recent damning indictment.
One cultist claimed that any video evidence could have been easily altered by computer trickery; thus, they would stand by their infallible, wrongfully persecuted man.
I suspect that if AI had existed on July 20, 1969, that 35% of Americans-about the size of the MAGA base-would have insisted that the first moon landing was all an illusion created by a young Hillary Clinton.
As it stands today, the same folks who suspend their beliefs when watching “Gilligan’s Island” will do the same for their victimized messiah who gives them permission to be the worst they can be.
After all, what’s a millionaire taking his entire fortune with him on a three-hour cruise compared to believing that it’s acceptable to stash boxes of classified documents in your bathroom?
