LETTER: The national tragedy continues

1 min read

Gary Stout’s recent commentary about the return to normalcy since COVID-19 emerged seems premature.

On October 22, 2020, then-candidate Joe Biden proclaimed in a debate with President Donald Trump that anyone responsible for letting 220,000 people die “should not remain as president of the United States.” In a dramatic about-face, President Biden proclaimed during an interview on “60 Minutes” on September 18, 2022, that the pandemic was over.

As of March 3, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 Data Tracker stated that 1,117,856 people have died of COVID-19 to date. The weekly rate is 2,290. Sadly, the national tragedy continues. It just isn’t news anymore.
