LETTER: Urban centers should not decide presidential elections
Urban centers should not decide presidential elections
I have never read anything more insulting in my life than the editorial about abolishing the Electoral College in the Oct. 8 edition. When our Founding Fathers developed this system, it was to give every state a say in who is elected president of the United States.
When you look at Pennsylvania, Allegheny and Dauphin counties and Philadelphia are the urban centers. They vote Democratic. The rest of the state votes Republican. Under no circumstances should the urban centers always decide how the rest of the state should go in an election. The same for the East and West coasts, which always vote blue. No matter the size of the state, each one should have a say as to who gets elected president.
When the country “elects” a president, there is way too much at stake. We have learned that since 2020. If only the urban centers decide who gets elected president, then we’ll end up the same way as countries that have dictators. That is not what this country is about.
