Families also affected by UPMC-Washington Health System merger

I applaud Melissa Duran and her op-ed, “Washington can do better than UPMC”, which appeared in the Observer-Reporter{/em} on Aug. 30. She hit the nail on the head.

However, I must make a correction. Her statement, “Hundreds of people depend on those paychecks from Washington Hospital,” is off by an order of magnitude. Quoting Karen Mansfield’s O-R{/em} article of June 30, “With over 2,000 employees, WHS is the largest employer in Washington County”.

Well more than those 2,000+ employees are affected when their families are factored in.
