Canonsburg council to vote on joint sewer authority sale

Canonsburg Borough Council will cast a vote next week to determine whether the Canonsburg-Houston Joint Sewer Authority will be sold to a private company. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, inside council chambers at 68 E. Pike St. Canonsburg’s is the final vote needed for the joint sewer authority sale to proceed. In October, the joint sewer authority board voted 3-2 to sell to Aqua, a water company that serves more than 3 million customers in eight states, including Texas, the Carolinas and Pennsylvania. Washington to vote on no-tax increase budget

The final touches have been put on a 2024 budget for the city of Washington and it does not include a tax increase. A vote to affirm the $15,093,936 spending plan is expected when council meets Thursday. The budget is about $100,000 more than the 2023 spending plan due to contractual obligations, salaries and benefits. Councilman Ken Westcott, who chairs the finance department, said there were only a few minor adjustments to the spending plan since it was initially presented in November. “The only change that came in was the contribution for the pension plan,” Westcott said after the meeting. “It went down about $70,000. Deck the Barns coming to fairgrounds

The second annual Deck the Barns is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Washington County Fairgrounds. There will be decorated Christmas displays, including lighted tractors, trucks and machinery, all of which are competing for holiday spirit awards. Families may go inside Hall 1 for festivities such as pictures with Santa, a petting zoo, carnival rides and cookie decorating.
