A morality gap
I don’t know what it is going to take for people to embrace the reality about Donald Trump’s lies, criminality, and immorality.
Let’s start with the fact that Trump lost the 2020 election. He lost simply because more people preferred, and voted for, Joe Biden. There was no widespread fraud committed on behalf of Biden. Yet Trump lied, and continues to lie, about the results. Lying like that, although immoral and damaging to the country, is not a crime per se, and is covered by the First Amendment. However, Trump took action based on those lies, and essentially attempted a coup.
For this alleged crime, he was charged in federal court and will go to trial in Washington, D.C. next year. My prediction, upon which I would wager money, is that Trump will be found guilty. Unfortunately, I suspect this will not alter his appeal to some voters.
We had already known from the public record that Trump has a lifelong history of lying, cheating, and bullying. In adulthood, he was a serial adulterer and bragged about sexually assaulting women. Subsequently, he was found by a jury in a court of law to have actually committed sexual assault. Trump also has a history of openly expressing sexual attraction to his daughter. These disgusting behaviors merely show who Trump is.
Much ado has been made about the education gap between Trump supporters and those who do not support him. However, the real issue here is a morality gap, and it is time to admit that the problem is not Trump’s immorality, but rather the immorality of those who continue to support him.
