Seniors shouldn’t have to pay school taxes

2 min read

It is way past time for Pennsylvania lawmakers to address property taxes.

It has always been that if you own property, you must pay school taxes. This is so unfair, and it discriminates against property owners who have worked hard most of their lives to have something they can call their own.

Property owners are being penalized for owning property by being required to pay school taxes. Most of us are senior citizens who have more than paid our fair share in taxes. Why should we have to pay school taxes when we do not have children in school? We did not mind paying the tax while we had children in school. But now, when we have no children in school, why do we have to choose between getting our medications or food or paying the school tax?

The school tax should be paid by everyone who has children in school. They are the ones benefiting from this tax, not senior citizens. We will be contacting our state representatives and senators to get this outdated law repealed.

Senior citizens have done our fair share and made everything possible for today’s generation. It is time they step up and take responsibility for the benefits they receive.
