God doesn’t always call the justified
In response to Ronald Yamka’s April 18 letter, the Bible is full of folks used by God who were a lot worse than former President Donald Trump.
Before Christ changed Saul’s name to Paul and he became an apostle, Saul/Paul persecuted followers of Christ. Moses may have been a prince of Egypt, but he was a coward, plus had a problem with his temper and was a murderer. Cain murdered his brother. Noah, supposedly the last righteous man on earth at the time, was a drunkard who slept naked. King Solomon was a serial adulterer and a sex addict, who had over 1,000 sexual partners. King David was a murderer and an adulterer. These are but a few examples. Trump hasn’t murdered anyone, to the best of my knowledge.
I don’t defend the life Trump has led. He’s a serial adulterer, but then so is Bill Clinton. John F. Kennedy was also a philanderer. Grover Cleveland fathered a son out of wedlock. Franklin Roosevet had a lifelong affair with Lucy Mercer, his wife’s social secretary. Thomas Jefferson shared his bed with several women besides his wife, including a slave. We aren’t electing a pope. We’re electing someone to run a country.
God doesn’t always call the justified. He has a way of justifying the called.
