Nick Sherman rebuked

1 min read

It is gratifying to see that the effort by Republican Washington County Commissioners Nick Sherman and Electra Janis to disenfranchise voters whose ballots contained insignificant errors has been thwarted by the courts, at least for now.

Throughout this debacle, Commission Chairman Sherman misled us, stating that the law requires that ballots cast with any error could not be counted and that the voter could not be notified and given an opportunity to correct the error. In fact, there is nothing in the law which precludes notification.

Sherman’s response to the rebuke is to criticize the judge as being partisan. Enabling the greatest number of individuals to vote should not be a partisan issue, but for the duo of Sherman and Janis, it is, since Democrats are more likely to vote by mail.

I am grateful that my county has one honest commissioner who is for the people and who believes that all who are qualified should be permitted to cast ballots. Thank you, Larry Maggi.
