Marianna needs a post office
How would it impact you or your family and friends if there was no mail access? This is the situation in Marianna.
We live in a very blighted community. Most people live in Marianna because of the low cost of homes or cheaper rent than other communities. Most of our population consists of elderly people or individuals who live below poverty level, some of them with no automobiles. Marianna has experienced a troubled economy and with high gas, food, and utility costs, and it has been very difficult making ends meet.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) decided to shut down our post office with little warning on Aug. 15 and it is expected for residents to drive 10 miles to get their mail.
In the last two weeks, we have gotten no response from USPS, therefore this process is very frustrating.
Marianna has invited Congressman Guy Reschenthaler, Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi, U.S. Sens. Bob Casey, and John Fetterman and the media for a town hall meeting, week of Sept. 16. We would appreciate a personal representative from the USPS to be present at our meeting and be transparent with their plans. USPS updates are essential.
