The cold-blooded murder of United Healthcare chief executive officer, husband, and father Brian Thompson was an outrage. It was accentuated by the distressing reaction to it which was shared by many.

In the eyes of some individuals with twisted values, the killer is a hero, and those who played a role in apprehending him are villains.

At a news conference in Hollidaysburg on the evening that the suspect was taken into custody, Gov. Josh Shapiro reminded a society that needed to be reminded that a murder such as this is never acceptable, never justifiable, no matter one’s level of or justification of grievance.

If law enforcement has their man, which I am confident it does, may his punishment be severe and swift. A message must be sent to other would-be vigilantes and those who cheer them.
