LETTER: More hatred, more votes
While reading the articles, columnists and letters that are slanted against the president-elect, I began to wonder about how this paper’s readership feels about this issue. So, I did a little research and found out that in 2016, Trump received 58,941 votes in Washington County. The number in 2020 was 72,080 and in 2024, 75,929 votes. That was over 31,000 more votes than Vice President Harris received. It seems that the more this paper spewed hatred for the former and future president, the more votes he received.
I became concerned that the Observer-Reporter may be alienating its readers. I thought that maybe if this paper would devote just one section a day to anti-Trump rhetoric, that would help. Then it was pointed out to me that they already do, it is called “Section A”.
So, my thought now is for the paper to move the obituaries to section B. That way you could have all the Trump-hating Associated Press articles, editorials, columnists and letter writers together in section A.
This idea may even appeal to the majority of the county voters. Then, if they need to line a bird cage, housebreak a puppy, swat an insect or start a fire, they will instantly know which section of the paper to grab.
