LETTER: Regular people make communities special
As another year comes to a close and a new one begins, we elected officials – county, state and federal – like to talk about all the great things we did to make our community a better place. We talk about how we reduced crime, created jobs, and started crucial programs.
In reality, it is the everyday people, like you, that really make a difference. Locally, it’s the people of towns like Burgettstown, Canonsburg, Washington, Claysville, and the Mon Valley that volunteer year-round to make sure our wonderful parades, festivals, and celebrations are planned to showcase our history and customs. It’s our veterans who continue to serve by providing final military salutes to remember the sacrifices that built this great nation. It’s the firefighters, police officers, and emergency responders throughout the county that really make a difference.
It’s the regular people who go to work, volunteer, and raise their families that keep our community and nation great. It’s not the elected officials that make Washington County, Pennsylvania, or America a special place, it’s our people.
