A legacy of hard work
It was refreshing to read Melissa Gibson’s article in the Dec. 22 edition about the work restoring the Roberts House in Canonsburg.
This restoration will serve as a presentation of the great legacy of hard work, humanity, equality and education by Canonsburg’s community leaders John Canon, the Rev. John McMillan, and John Roberts, the owner of the home and a general store. Thanks for sharing the plans for this endeavor.
I would like to commend the hard work and imaginative restorations of Andy Tarnick, who bought the Roberts House more than two decades ago. I remember his restorations taking shape on another steep hill in Canonsburg’s East End on Highland Avenue, probably over 50 years ago.
It would be great to see and hear more about the way of life in Canonsburg’s history when more people were building homes and gardens. Also, let’s help bring back the work for clean air, clean water, and better soil, which are the building blocks of a better life.
Washington County Cultural Trust should keep up the great work. If it is rebuilt, people will definitely come back to take another good look, just like Andy Tarnick did.
