Beveridge was a professional

I was shocked to read about the death of former Observer-Reporter staff writer Scott Beveridge in the Jan. 14 edition.

I was active with the Monongahela River Buffs Association (MRBA) in Greensboro, and I first met Beveridge in 1986 when we moved the MRBA museum to Monongahela. He became my print media contact. His professionalism was a constant.

In addition, his interest in local history and our constant banter enlivened every conversation. I would tease him about living in the urban center of Webster, and he would reply with an anti-Alabama comment.

Often, when I would hear about something in the Mon Valley or at California University of Pennsylvania, where I taught, that I thought he should investigate, I would phone him and say, “I’m trying to save your job, again.”

It was a joy to have known him.
