People vote for promises
Many years ago, as I was growing up, a phrase heard often from parents was “the ends don’t justify the means.” If you got what you wanted, but it was through lying or cheating, it wasn’t right.
When I became old enough to vote, I was taught to vote for a person with integrity because they will always do the right thing. Sometimes, I may not get what I want, but they are looking out for what is best for all the people.
I have only ever had one politician come to my door willing to talk about who he was and what he stood for. Former state Rep. Rick Saccone and his wife did that, and we found he was a man of integrity. At his town hall meeting, he spoke the truth even if it was hard to hear.
Today, people vote for promises – for the politician who promises to line their pockets by whatever means or whatever the cost to others. When was the last time you voted for a person of integrity?
I keep getting solicitations from politicians showing themselves in military uniforms, but their words and actions go against the integrity of the military.
The ends do not justify the means.
